Topic : Introduction to Ruby Programming

Description :

A quick introduction to Ruby programming language
with insight on scripting/development/automation
to manage routine administration chores.

Learn how to create easily understandable, concise
and maintainable scripts using Ruby. Also learn how
Ruby can serve as a drop-in replacement for Perl
for most tasks while being more readable and
maintainable.

Target Audience:
    Administrators, Developers, Testing engineers and
    Power users intending to learn how to create
    highly readable and maintainable scripts beyond
    Shell/Awk/Perl.

NOTE: This talk is NOT about the Rails framework!
Focus will be more on concepts that drive Ruby
programming.

Title : MuLTiFlow - A Editor for scientific and technical writing.

Speaker : Suki Venkat, TNQ Publications

Description:
A new editor/browser, MuLTiFlow,  for scientific and technical writing
has been created. This XUL application can be used both as a standalone and as a Firefox addon.
The code has deposited in SourceForge:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/multiflow/

under GPL v3 license.

The editor can handle Math (MathML) and Graphics (SVG) markup and also
has a input mechanism for UTN28 (modern version of TeX).
The editor has a locale switch for 11 languages.

The talk will cover the following subjects:
a) why yet another editor, what is the need for MuLTiFlow.
b) the reasons XUL was chosen as a development platform, and the
experience of developing with it from an application developers
viewpoint.
c) the experience of trying to localise the program, especially into
Tamil, some issues with locale settings and variables, and discussing
ways going forward to make it easy to author scientific documents in
Tamil and other Indic languages.
