PeopleSoft HRMS Upgrade Resources Report Tool

Announcing PeopleSoft's New Interactive Upgrade Resources Report Tool.
The PeopleSoft Upgrade Resources Report Tool is an interactive tool that displays a report with links to all documentation and files you need for your upgrade project.

PeopleSoft HRMS Upgrade Resources Report Tool

Upgrade Resources Report Tool

The new tool helps you find all the documentation, scripts, and files you need for your upgrade project. You simply identify your product line, your existing release, and your new release. With a single click the tool quickly produces a customized set of links to all the documentation and files needed for your upgrade project.

The tool's output is an Excel spreadsheet, so you can easily manipulate and sort the results any way you wish or copy the content into other implementation planning documents.

You no longer have to search through multiple areas to find upgrade resources. We will have an Upgrade Resources Report Tool for each PeopleSoft product line. .

Note:   Make sure to enable macros when prompted to do so. Otherwise the Excel workbook will not function properly. You may have to adjust your Macro security level.
Cursor Focus Disappears on any Search Page after Clicking on Clear Button

PeopleTools 8.50.04, 8.50.05

Peoplecode error when logging in for a new demo install for Enterprise Portal 9.0, PT8.50.xx

Enterprise Portal 9.0, PeopleTools (PT) 8.50.01, Install and Packaging

The demo install of Portal Solutions 9.0 on PT 8.50.01 has completed.
When trying to login through PIA, we get the following error:

1. Complete the installation for PeopleTools 8.50.xx
and Enterprise Portal 9.0 as outlined in the Installation guides.
2. Launch the PIA signon page.
3. Signon to the application.

BUSINESS IMPACT
-----------------------
The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, users cannot signon to the application successfully.

Cause

The issue is caused by the following setup: Setup that is incorrect.
Enterprise Portal (EP) 9.0 is not Generally Available on 8.50.
In order to use it on PeopleTools 8.50, a user has to run the PeopleTools Only Upgrade and then apply 2 Update IDs 810689 & 811680.
For an install/upgrade of EP9 to PeopleTools 8.50, these patches are required.

Solution

Workaround (until PeopleTools 8.50 Upgrade Availability is available)
Install Enterprise Portal 9.1 (instead of Enterprise Portal 9.1) with PeopleTools 8.50.xx, until PeopleTools 8.50 Upgrade Availability is announced/available.

To implement the workaround/solution, please execute the following steps:
1. Install PT8.50, and the PT8.50.xx product patch.
2. Install Enterprise Portal 9.1 as outlined in 887852.1 - PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal 9.1 Installation Guide
3. Complete the installation as outlined in the PT8.50 Installation Guide and the Enterprise Portal 9.1 Installation Guide.

6. Select the Arrow to complete the search next to the "Search For" box.
7. Click on the Update ID 810689 and you can download the Change Packager: https://psft-updates.oracle.com/ice/Resolutions/810689/upd810689.zip
8. Repeat Steps 1-7 for ID 811680
9. Apply both patches which are required for the 8.50 Tools Only upgrade to Enterprise Portal 9.

After installing the PT 8.50.01, all Windows client PeopleTools applications fail to start and errors with the following.

ERROR
-----------------------
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced with the following steps:
1. Start any Windows client PeopleTools application such as Configuration Manager, Application Designer, or Data Mover.

Cause

In the PeopleTools 8.50 Installation guide, the task titled "Verifying Necessary Files for Installation on Windows"  explains that the issue is caused by the C Run Time (CRT) files not getting updated which will cause PeopleTools not to run.
From the PeopleTools 8.50 Installation guide Task "Verifying Necessary Files for Installation on Windows":
PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.50 is developed using Microsoft Visual C++ 2005. Microsoft, as part of VC++ 2005, changed the way applications use and ship the required C Run Time (CRT) files (these files are installed as shared assemblies). PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.50 programs require these files to be present or the programs will not run.

During your PeopleSoft PeopleTools installation, the install programs will automatically update the Microsoft Windows machine performing the installation.

The required CRT files are installed by all of the PeopleSoft installers, including:
o - PeopleSoft PeopleTools (including: Application Designer, Data Mover, Configuration Manager).
o - Database
o - PeopleSoft Pure Internet Architecture
o - Change Assistant PeopleSoft Installer
o - Change Impact Analyzer
o - Web app Deploy

In some cases it may be necessary for you to carry out a separate installation of the CRT files. For example:
o - If the update does not take place during the installation program run, you may not be able to launch PeopleSoft PeopleTools client or server executables on that machine and may receive error messages.
o - If you are accessing PeopleSoft PeopleTools executables from a machine on which the PeopleSoft installer did not run, the executables may not work and you may receive error messages.

Solution

To implement the solution, execute the following steps:

1. Go to PS_HOME\setup\vcredist.
2. Run vcredist_x86.exe.
The installation is completed automatically.
3. Test by starting any Windows client PeopleTools application such as Configuration Manager, Application Designer, or Data Mover.
HOW DOES COMP TIME VALIDATION WORKS ON WEEKLY ELAPSED TIME PAGE

If Comp Balance Validation is set to 'Both Online and Batch' on Installation page and if you report Comp Time Earned or Comp time taken, and run time admin, it updates both PS_TL_COMPLEAV_TBL and PS_TL_COMP_DAY_BAL tables along with PS_TL_PAYABLE_TIME tables.

Time Admin updates comp time earned and comp time taken on PS_TL_COMPLEAV_TBL and PS_TL_COMP_DAY_BAL table in TL_TA000900. If time admin is cancelled or errors after TL_TA000900 and Payable time is not created and if you try to report comp time again thinking that you still have comp time since Payable is not created, you will get online error message since PS_TL_COMPLEAV_TBL and PS_TL_COMP_DAY_BAL tables are already updated in previous time admin run.

If Comp Balance Validation is set to Online Only, and if you report Comp Time Earned, it updates Payable time table but not PS_TL_COMPLEAV_TBL or PS_TL_COMP_DAY_BAL table. If you try to take this Comp time earned you will get online error message since Comp leave table or Comp day bal table is not updated (This will be fixed in next TL bundle).
Basically Online Only Validation is to allow users to take comp time what they have and not more than that.
How To Capture Statuses And Scores From AICC/SCORM Compliant Content

Some content vendors include logging utilities with their content that will capture AICC transactions. Please check with your vendor to see whether such logging abilities are provided.
There is a number of vendors who use Java for communication with LMSs. Using Java Console in the browser may show the AICC data being passed as well.
If those methods cannot be used, the following code can be added to ELM to output statuses and scores into a flat file.

For AICC:

Open record WEBLIB_LM_LELM, field LM_ISCRIPT, FieldFormula PeopleCode event and add the following (there are two disctinct places where this code goes).

/**
*IScript which will be called for AICC-HACP communication
 */
Function IScript_HACP_COMM()

The file output.txt will capture statues and scores being passed by the content that go into the LM_TRACK_STUDNT record. Please note that the file will be created on the app server machine. You should also adjust the path if you are running the app server on UNIX.
For SCORM:

You can enable JavaScript pop-ups that will give you very detailed information about communication between ELM and the content. To enable pop-ups go to the Application Designer and open HTML object LM_SCORM_API_JS_1. On line 6 set var debug = 5; and save. No app server or web server restart is necessary. You will need to navigate away from the launch page and come back to it and relaunch the content for the pop-ups to begin showing. Once done with troubleshooting, set the debug variable back to 0 in the LM_SCORM_API_JS_1 object.

Required Browser settings for PeopleSoft, Download to Excel AND Attachments

To use PeopleSoft applications with Microsoft Internet Explorer, end users must turn off popup blocking for the PeopleSoft site.  3rd party browser plugins such as Yahoo search bar, Google search bar, and MSN search bar may have built in popup blockers.  These 3rd party popup blockers must be turned off for PeopleSoft sites.
With IE, start with default settings:
In IE6, navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options".

a) In General tab, click on "Delete Cookies..." button and click on "Delete Files...." button.
b) In "Security" tab, click on "Default level" button in "Internet" and/or "Local intranet",
c) In "Advanced" tab, click on "Restore Defaults" button.

Click on "Apply" and "OK".

In IE 7, navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options".

- In General tab, click on "Delete..." to delete cache. Click on "Delete all".
- In Advanced tab, click on "Reset" button.
- In "Security" tab, click on "Default level" button in "Internet" and/or "Local intranet",
- Click on "OK". Close IE
Here's are the IE security settings that must be set.  Please check the following:

- IE 6 on Windows 2000 or XP SP1:
Navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options".  In "Security" tab, for specific zone, click on "Custom Level" and set the following:

Download "File Download" = Enable

Navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options".  In "Advanced" tab, ensure "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" = UNCHECKED.

- IE 6 or IE 7 on Windows XP SP2.  IE 7 on Windows Vista:

Navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options".  In "Security" tab, for specific zone, click on "Custom Level" and set the following:

"Automatic prompting for file downloads" = Enable
Download "File Download" = Enable

Navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options".  In "Advanced" tab, ensure "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" = UNCHECKED.
- For IE8 on Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista:

Navigate to "Tools -> Internet Options". In "Security" tab, click on desire zone, trusted and/or intranet zone. Please ensure the following are set:

"Automatic prompting for file downloads" = Enable
Download "File Download" = Enable

* Please note: By default, the trusted zone in IE8 is set to "Medium". The Medium setting by default has "Automatic prompting for file downloads" = Disabled. One must either change trusted zone to "Medium-Low" OR customize "Medium" setting to set "Automatic prompting for file downloads" = Enable.

Firefox will work with default settings and popup blocking needs to be turned off for PeopleSoft site.  Safari will work with default settings.  However Safari, popups can only be turned on or off, but cannot be turn off for certain sites.

Oracle Identity Manager is the new name for the legacy Xellerate product that came from Thor Technologies. All issues with the connector should be directed to the OIM support team with Oracle.

PeopleTools development has not done any certification with Oracle Identity Manager yet. It is an enhancement item for PT 8.50.

Here is some more information that might be helpful:
Current PSFT_UM Connector 9.1.1.4 is certified for:
PeopleTools 8.48
PeopleTools 8.49
PeopleTools 8.50
- This would require at a minimum of Oracle Identity Manager release 9.1.0.2 BP05

Current PSFT_ER Connector 9.1.1.4 is certified for:
PeopleSoft HRMS 9.0 with PeopleTools 8.49
PeopleSoft HRMS 9.0 with PeopleTools 8.50
PeopleSoft HRMS 9.1 with PeopleTools 8.50
- This would require at a minimum of Oracle Identity Manager release 9.1.0.2 BP05

*** IMPORTANT ***
The following information is UNSUPPORTED.

There is no delivered documentation on how to clone an existing system into a new environment.  The GCS and Development consider this to be out of scope and as such it is unsupported.  However, we have compiled the following information which could render assistance.
*** IMPORTANT ***

1) Copy the database

2) If your database platform has the table PS.PSDBOWNER, please don't forget to update it for the name of the database and ownerid, both in caps, ie:
INSERT INTO PS.PSDBOWNER VALUES ('H512O732','SYSADM');

3) If there is to be a different access ID and/or password you must update PSACCESSPRFL. To change just the access password use the
CHANGE_ACCESS_PASSWORD ;
command in Data Mover in bootstrap mode.

4) Edit, if necessary, and run the CONNECT.SQL and GRANT.SQL scripts

5) For PeopleTools 8.44 and higher, blank out the GUID in the PSOPTIONS table

6) Create new Application Server Domain (delete old one)

7) Create new PIA (delete old one)

8) For PeopleTools 8.44 and higher, update the Long name, Short name, and System Type in PeopleTools -> Utilities -> Administration -> PeopleTools Options

9) Update the Report Node definitions

10) Clear out the Process tables with PRCSCLR.DMS
Note: Still required to be run if the cloned database has the same name

11) Clear out the content tables with RPTCLR.DMS
Note: Still required to be run if the cloned database has the same name

12) Create new Process Scheduler domain (delete old one)

13) Make sure old URL information has been updated.

14) What we generally tell customers is that the things to look for include any node URI values (PSNODEURITXT) and of course we recommend a file system search on the PS_HOME for old values.  We would also recommend looking over the webprofiles for any old values.

The following tables are a solid place to start:
 SELECT * FROM PSPRDMDEFN
 SELECT * FROM PSPRDMCNTPRV
 SELECT * FROM PSMSGNODEDEFN
 SELECT * FROM PSNODEURITEXT
 SELECT * FROM PSTRUSTNODES

Make sure that the Local Default Node is correct and that it's URI values are correct.  It also has to be in the trusted nodes list (it normally is automatically....).  Also make sure that your Portal Registry is hosted by the correct node.

Generally this may require tweaking information manually in SQL until you get all the old data changed over.  Focus on the Default Local Nodes as well as the portal definitions (as they may point to defunct nodes now).

15) For PeopleTools 844 and higher, also check the web profiles table called: PSWEBPROFNVP

Please run the following SQL to check the webprofile Virtual Addressing settings:

select * from PSWEBPROFNVP WHERE PROPERTYNAME='DEFAULTSCHEME' OR PROPERTYNAME='PSWEBSERVERNAME' OR PROPERTYNAME='DEFAULTPORT' OR PROPERTYNAME='AUTHTOKENDOMAIN'

Please ensure that these values are NOT pointing to your old environment.
16) Generate a new, unique GUID for PSOPTIONS table.

Please also refer to the solution references below which are related to cloning databases.

*** IMPORTANT ***
This is meant to be a guideline resolution because we get many requests and problems from cloned systems.  Although we don't support it, we will continue to add information to this resolution so customers can guide themselves.  We tell customers to do a full DB search for the old server address as well as searching the file structure.  If you have successfully created a plan and detailed what you look for we would certainly add customer feedback to this resolution.

NOTE:
The GCS can't assist with problems caused by cloned databases.

intermittent problems when accessing PeopleSoft with multiple IE window

ntermittent problems when accessing PeopleSoft with multiple IE windows

When opening multiple Internet Explorer windows to access PeopleSoft, the following approaches will cause problems and are not supported:

1.  Launching IE shortcuts on desktop.
2.  Clicking on URL hyperlinks in email or MS-Word documents.
3.  In HTML page, clicking on URL that opens new IE window.
4.  Launching new IE window with ctrl-N or IE's "File -> New -> Window"
5.  IE7 tabbing feature.

In the above problem scenarios, the multiple IE windows will all share the same cookies causing premature logouts, IE window displaying the wrong environment, "Page no longer available" messages, intermittent cookie problems, and/or other navigation problems.
